General Purpose/Summary Statement

The O’Neil Group Company is looking for a talented, energetic and friendly Construction Accountant. We are a capable accounting team that works hard and insists on having a blast at work. We're always looking for process improvement...and we need a strong accountant with experience in recommending and implementing new systems. Someone who can interact with the construction team to get PO information, vendor invoice approval, change orders and more.  Someone who can write a sentence and is easy to work with, all while producing excellent work.

As a Staff Accountant with The O’Neil Group Company, you will work closely with our Controller and Accounting Team to support the financial functions of our dynamic environment. In so doing, you will gain invaluable exposure to the inner workings of a successful and dynamic company.


Duties/Responsibilities

· Maintains and controls the job cost accounting for various construction projects

· Produces job cost reporting on a regular basis for Controller and other accounting staff, Construction project managers, and Executives as needed

· Implement effective purchase order system, and other construction accounting systems we lack

· Work closely with Construction team to develop, enter, and report on estimates

· Produce progress billing monthly or semi-monthly as the case may be

· Bill according to government cost standards when necessary, including Service Contract Act requirements

· Assist in subcontractor management - alerting construction team when subs have billed over their contract amount(s), creating and collecting lien waivers, W-9s, and Certificates of Insurance
 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

· Strong construction job cost accounting experience, preferably with gov't contracting experience to include Service Contract Act standards and reporting

· Knowledge of standard construction divisions and cost codes

· Progress billing and over/under billing experience

· General Ledger experience - knowing your debits and credits

· Strong understanding of how A/P and A/R impact the General Ledger

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills - please don't submit a resume with typos or grammatical errors

· The ability to adapt quickly to an ever-changing environment with evolving demands

· The ability to work with minimal supervision; a self-starter attitude is a must

· Month end close and financial statement review

· Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

· Cash flow forecasting

· Estimate / budget creation, and reporting against a budget

· Well-organized and detail oriented

· People person, able to interact well with the accounting and construction teams

Education/Experience

· 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in construction project / job cost accounting

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred

· Government accounting experience a plus

· Smartsheet experience a plus

· QuickBooks experience a plus
